Sines and Coatzacoalcos ports’ formalise a partnership as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Portuguese Government and the Government of the United Mexican States.

APS - Ports of Sines and the Algarve Authority, S.A. and CIIT- Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthums of Tehuantepec, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on last February 3, aiming at developing a maritime corridor between the ports of Sines and Coatzacolacos, thus promoting the increase of traffic volumes, namely in what concerns LNG - Liquefied Natural Gas.

This document results from the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Portugal and Mexico in December 2023, which laid the foundations for strengthening institutional and commercial relations among both countries, particularly with regards to energy transition, promoting a common Agenda geared to economy, thus strengthened by the Atlantic central role, played by both countries. The agreement signed between Sines and Coatzacoalcos complements the previous one in what concerns technical and implementation aspects, while also opening new areas of cooperation on innovation, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and security.

It should be noted that Sines offers two regular weekly services to the Mexican ports, in terms of containerised cargo. This cooperations also holds significant potential in the dry bulk sector, positioning Sines as a gateway for Mexican exports to the European continent in this segment as well.
