The Port of Sines took part in Intermodal South America, held in São Paulo from 14 to 16 April, further consolidating its international promotion strategy in one of the most significant markets in South America.
Considered as the most important event in the transport and logistics sector in South America, attracting around 45,000 visitors, the Port of Sines’ participation in this venue focused on promoting the dry bulk and containerised cargo segments. The Sines Multipurpose Terminal offering was highlighted, in cooperation with the company awarded the concession of the terminal, as well as the regular direct maritime connection provided by Terminal XXI to the main Brazilian ports, reinforcing Sines’ position as a leading atlantic hub.
The participation in this event provided a valuable opportunity for direct contact with several stakeholders involved in import and export flows between Brazil, Portugal and Spain, including both existing clients and potential port users. This context is especially relevant considering ongoing trade agreement negotiations between the European Union and Mercosul, which may boost trade between the two economic markets.
The Port of Sines’ participation was framed within the institutional booth of Portuguese Ports Association (APP), which brought together the main national port authorities, along with several stakeholders from the Portuguese ports and logistics sector, enabling the presentation of integrated logistics solutions and strengthening the competitiveness of national ports.
At the same time, APP promoted a venue aiming at presenting the opportunities offered by Portuguese ports, within the framework of the Port 5+ Strategy, geared to freight forwarders, shipping agents, logistics operators and brazilian port authorities. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the São Paulo Chamber of Commerce and with the support of AICEP Portugal Global - Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency.
During the session, the main business opportunities offered by the Port of Sines were highlighted, particularly in terms of increased port capacity, the development of more sustainable fuels and the availability of logistics areas. The improvements in road and rail connection to the Iberian hinterland were also emphasised, along with the outcomes in digital solutions within the scope of the NEXUS Agenda, as well as the role of the port authority in the coordination of the various economic stakeholders and authorities operating at the port.
The event was attended by the Consul General of Portugal in São Paulo, Ambassador António Pedro da Vinha Rodrigues da Silva, emphasising the importance of such initiatives in strengthening economic and institutional relations between Portugal and Brazil.
