On January 14, APS - Ports of Sines and the Algarve Authority, S.A. hosted the event “Towards Net Zero: Sines and the Paths to Industrial Decarbonization”, promoted by Repsol Foundation.

The event was headed by the Minister for Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, the President of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, both the Mayors of Sines, Álvaro Beijinha, and Santiago do Cacém, Bruno Pereira, as well as several organisations and specialists that discussed the importance of energy transition, decarbonization and innovation in the petrochemical sector.

Prior to the venue, APS’ Board of Directors, headed by Pedro do Ó Ramos welcomed the President of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, accompanied by his delegation. This meeting aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between APS and REPSOL, bearing in mind the fundamental role played by the Sines’ industrial hub in what concerns the Iberian and European energy transition. Both the Port of Sines and Repsol are developing a series of projects aiming to achieve carbon neutrality, whose contribution was highlighted for the fulfilment of the European Union’s goals. Within this scope, the role of Repsol as the company awarded the concession of the Sines‘ Petrochemical Terminal was also emphasised, a factor which enhances the port’s positioning as a leading platform in the decarbonisation of industry.

Sines assumes itself as a driving force towards industrial decarbonisation, with outstanding port capacity and a diversified industrial platform with a strategic vision, focused on sustainability and competitiveness within the context of the European energy transition.
