Secretary of State for Infrastructures on Working Visit to the Port of Sines

The Secretary of State for Infrastructures, Hugo Espírito Santo, visited the Port of Sines on May 7, where he took part in a working meeting with APS– Ports of Sines and the Algarve Authority, along with several stakeholders from the port community.

The visit’s main objective was to strengthen the coordination between the government, the port authority, and the different stakeholders comprised within the Sines’ Port and Logistics Community, thus promoting a constructive dialogue on the port’s challenges and opportunities.

During the meeting, the Secretary of State highlighted the importance of preparing the port sector for the future, focusing on priorities such as decarbonisation, integrated digitalisation, improvement of rail and road accessibility, as well as the strengthening of intermodality.

In a brief statement, the Port of Sines’ CEO, Pedro do Ó Ramos, reaffirmed the commitment to preserving close relationships between the port authority and its key partners, giving priority to networked collaboration in supporting business development, while achieving the goals of energy and digital transition. In his speech, the Mr. Ramos also emphasised the importance of physical and digital connectivity to the hinterland, with a focus on infrastructures’ modernisation and the enhancement of logistics competitiveness.

Within this scope, the main ongoing and future projects at the Port of Sines were also presented, focused on the expansion and modernisation of port infrastructures, improving connectivity and efficiency of cargo handling, while investing in sustainable solutions aligned with energy transition objectives.

The working session was also attended by representatives from Sines City Council, the GNR Coastal and Border Control Unit, the Maritime Authority, AICEP Global Parques, PortSines, the ETE Group, among others.
