On May 26, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labor of Belgium, visited the port, logistics and industrial complex of Sines, accompanied by a delegation of entrepreneurs, from areas such as energy transition and environmental sustainability.

The Belgian delegation was received by António Costa e Silva, Minister for Economy Maritime Affairs and by the Port of Sines' Board of Directors, accompanied by senior representatives of aicep Global Parques, IAPMEI and Sines City Council.

With a focus on the development and investment in renewable energies, on the great axis of green hydrogen to be developed in Sines and on the potential for cooperation between the two countries, this meeting reinforced energy cooperation between Portugal and Belgium, with the Port of Sines playing a key role in the development of the green port concept in Portugal and in the reception and storage of liquefied natural gas.

With the goal of testing various sources of “green energy” and new technologies, Belgium intends to position itself in carbon neutrality, providing Sines the opportunity to attract new investments that may find port support for foreign trade.

It should be remembered that the energy transition is one of the pillars of the Strategic Plan of the Port of Sines and the basis of the NEXUS Agenda, which aims to innovate and digitize the logistics chain and decarbonize the Sines logistics corridor, developing innovative applications and services that contribute to streamlining the green transition process and sustainability of the logistics chain served by the port.
