APS, S.A. (Ports of Sines and the Algarve Authority S.A) has promoted the maintenance of an Integrated Management System (IMS) that covers key areas in the areas of quality, environment, occupational health and safety, protection, privacy and information security, reconciliation between professional, family and personal life, well-being and organizational happiness.
APS suppliers are assessed based on criteria such as compliance with deadlines and the quality of services or products provided.
At the same time, the company maintains a strong commitment to environmental protection, ensuring adequate occupational health and safety conditions, and implementing a program for equality, conciliation, well-being and organizational happiness. All these initiatives follow the principles of continuous improvement and are aligned with the port's strategic options, ensuring sustainable and responsible performance.

History

Certifications
APS has a solid track record of certifications that guarantee the efficiency and quality of its processes, reinforcing its commitment to continuous improvement and social responsibility:
Since December 5, 2005, it has held quality certification in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard, within the scope of the “Movement of vessels in the port, including pilotage” and “Management of concession contracts” processes.
On May 13, 2008, APS' environmental, health and safety management systems were also certified, according to international standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, as a port authority in the areas of its exclusive responsibility.
In 2012, the expansion of the scope of certifications was approved, with the inclusion of “Licensing Management. Management of the Recreational Port. Management of ZALSINES – Intraport zone.”
Since July 22, 2013, APS, S.A. holds certification for its Information Security Management System, in accordance with the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard. In July 2022, the change in the scope of ISO27001 certification was approved, for governance of the development of the Single Logistics Window (JUL), implementation, installation and support of JUL and the supervision of the execution of data entry actions, information integrity and business workflow.
In the first half of 2021, OHSAS 18001 was migrated to ISO 45001 and NP4552 certification relating, respectively, to occupational health and safety management systems and the reconciliation of professional, family and personal life.
In the first half of 2024, the transition from NP4552 to the 2022 version and the NP4590:2023 certification took place, the latter relating to organizational well-being and happiness, having its scope in the “activities of movement of ships, goods and passengers, in the management of domain areas, infrastructure and information systems and in the exercise of the powers and prerogatives of the port authority”.
Also in the first half of 2024, on June 5, APS certified its Information Privacy Management System (SGPI) in accordance with ISO/IEC 27701:2019 relating to “Information Privacy for business support assets, in port operation processes, management of concession, licensing and private use contracts, and management and operation of Information Systems, acting as controller and processor of personal data for all processes carried out in the ports of Sines, Faro and Portimão” .
Simultaneously with the aforementioned certification process, it promoted the transition process of the Information Security Management System (SGSI), ISO/IEC27001 from version 2013 to version 2022 and respective alignment of scopes.
In the second half of 2024, on July 29, it also received the Safety and Resilience Management System certification by ISO 28000:2022, with the scope of “Management of port and complementary activities in the Jurisdiction Area of the Port of Sines”.
The transition of the Information Security Management System (ISMS), ISO/IEC 27001, from the 2013 version to the 2022 version was also implemented, including the corresponding alignment of the scopes.
In the second half of 2024, on 29 July, the organisation also obtained certification of the Security and Resilience Management System according to ISO 28000:2022, covering the scope of 'Management of port and complementary activities within the Jurisdiction Area of the Port of Sines'.
At the beginning of July 2025, the integrated recertification process for the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 standards took place, certified by TÜV Austria Iberia.
Awards and Distinctions
On May 22, 2024, the company was awarded the Healthy Workplaces award, granted by the Order of Portuguese Psychologists, in recognition of its commitment to transforming the organization into a Healthy Workplace.
On October 17, 2024, APS was honored with the Wellbeing Awards, granted by Workwell, in the Best Mental/Emotional Health Strategy category. This recognition reflects APS's commitment to promoting the mental and emotional well-being of its workers, through innovative and effective strategies that contribute to a healthy and balanced work environment.
In September 2025, APS was awarded the Excellence Prize in the Public Organizations category at that year’s Wellbeing Awards, an initiative organized by Workwell.
