The Sines' Container Terminal - TXXI received, on August 3, the call of the ship "Madrid Maersk", with capacity for 20,568 TEU (20 feet containers), that integrates the top-10 of the largest container ships in the world . This vessel is part of the SILK service linking the Far East to Europe and is operated by the 2M alliance comprising the two main shipowners worldwide, the MSC - Mediterranean Shipping Company and Maersk.

Weeks after the port of Sines has received the "MSC Eloane", to date, the largest container ship calling Terminal XXI and national ports, the record was exceeded by the giant "Madrid Maersk", the first of several ships of the second-generation Triple-E class to be delivered by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyards to Maersk.

The reception of the largest and most modern ships on the market testifies to the physical and operational characteristics of the Port of Sines and the Terminal XXI, concessioned to PSA Sines, to be present on the main international shipping routes.

At its launch in 2017, "Madrid Maersk" was the second ship to exceed the 20,000 TEU mark. With a capacity of 20,568 TEU, this ship has 399 meters in length, 58.6 m of signal mouth (width) and 196 thousand tons of deadweight.

"Madrid Maersk" sailed from the port of Tanjung Pelepas, in Malaysia, towards Sines, being this the first European port called in this voyage. After the operation, on which is expected to handle more than 4,000 TEU, it will continue to northern Europe, more precisely to the Port of Bremerhaven, Germany.
