On August 2nd, Sines hosted the event “Ao Leme com Ciência Viva” which included a Science Festival at Vasco da Gama Avenue and Beach.  This event is part of a broader action called “Ciência Viva no Verão”, which aims at spreading and develop the scientific knowledge.

Supported by APS – Ports of Sines and Algarve Authority, the event’s organization was the responsibility of the Centros Ciência Viva in partnership with scientific institutions, regional associations and the City of Sines.

Ao Leme com a Ciência Viva” started on August 2nd in Sines, with a team of ten young scientists and a group of journalists whom joined the crew of the Vera Cruz Caravel. The scientists discussed issues like climate change, sea pollution, loss of biodiversity, flow measurement, navigation techniques through the stars, not only theoretically but also with a practical approach with activities such as star-gazing, laboratory experiments, show cooking and visits inside the caravel.

After Sines, the cities of Lisbon, Ílhavo and Porto will receive the Science Festival and the Vera Cruz Caravel.
