The Secretary General of the Government of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Afonso Varela, visited the Port of Sines. The visit was coordinated by the Sines Business Association and was part of a wider action that included the passage through the municipalities of Santiago do Cacém and Sines.

Afonso Varela visited the various terminals and the Maritime Traffic Control Center of the Port of Sines, showing considerable interest in the systems used in the operations, namely the Port Single Window and other systems that integrate with this platform.

The Sines container terminal (TXXI) was also a very relevant aspect of the visit. It is recalled that the country has planned a deep-water port project, whose purpose is to serve as a turning point for trade between the countries of the Gulf of Guinea and the rest of the world, in addition to serving the economy of São Tomé and Príncipe.
