The Port of Piraeus, in Athens, was the host of the 12th  European Sea Ports Conference (ESPO) which occurred between the 21st and 22nd of May under the theme “No ports, no energy; No energy, no ports!”

João Franco, CEO of APS – Ports of Sines and the Algarve Authority was one of the participants in the session entitled “New Energy Mix in Transport: Consequences for European Ports”, a session which included the CEO of Constantza Port (Romania) – Valeriu Nicolae Ionescu; the Marketing Director of Gdansk Port (Poland) – Julian Skelinik and the CEO of Milford Haven Port (United Kingdom) – Alec Don.

This year’s conference aimed to open the discussion on the role of the Ports in changing the energy paradigm; in which way the use of alternative energies in the maritime transport and other means of transport will affect the Port activity and, finally, how can Ports become more energy efficient infrastructures.

The event was attended by nearly 300 participants, including representatives of the main European Ports, European Union and some of the most important industries of the Maritime Port and Energetic sector. The edition of 2016 will take place in May 2016, in Dublin.
