APS releases market research on the handling of the cruise ships at the Port of Portimão

The APS – Ports of Sines and Algarve Authority, approved the launch of a tender for a market study on the handling of cruise ships and for the evaluation of the viability of investments to be made in the Port of Portimão.

This work will be based on the operational evaluation already implemented on maritime accessibility and the maneuverability of the ships in a real-time simulator of the Portimão Cruise Terminal, that pointed out three development scenarios, which will now be studied from an economic and financial point of view. The three scenarios include the development of the port for the operation of cruise ship of 250, 272 and 334 meters length (LOA).

For each of the scenarios, the study of economic and financial viability of investment, should consider the vessel and passenger handling projections and the projection of associated revenues.

Aspects such as the perspectives of business of the main tourist cruise operators, the current composition and the expected development of the cruise fleet, the touristic offer of the region, the characterization of the competitive position of the port of Portimão and its development potential, among other things, will be taken into account in order for the study to be as realistic as possible and allow a sustain future investment options.
